George Cann

George Cann is a lifelong resident of Westport and the founder of TIWABA. He has always identified himself very closely with the Westport Community. In fact he has never really considered living anywhere else. He is very altruistic and has always been interested in seeing Westport prosper and grow.

In 1968, George, along with his mother, Ellen, and his wife Donna, opened a 40-lot addition to the Town of Westport. In 1985, he started The Independent Westport Area Business Association. In 1994, he brought the Westport's Of The World Organization to Westport, Indiana.

All of his great-grandparents were early pioneers and, because of some very large generation gaps on the Cann side of the family, George was in a somewhat unique situation to learn much of the early Westport history from his father John, and his uncle Jake Cann. From childhood, he learned the names of early residents and many stories about them.

George has written two books which document much of Westport's history and has worked on many projects, including the compilation of a Decatur County History by the Historical Society in 1984.

George is married to Donna Wiley and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Jill Sageser and Beth Pigmon. They are also the grandparents to three wonderful children. George attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor's Degree with majors in Mathematics and Physics, and a Masters Degree in Education. Donna received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Hanover College and a Master's Degree in Education from IU. Both have taught for several years in the public schools. George is now self-employed.

George has been a guiding influence and a wealth of information in assisting in the development of this web site for the Westport community. He has supplied us with photographs and information that would be impossible to find elsewhere.
